İgnimbiritlerin (Nevşehir bölgesi) kapiler su emme davranışlarının incelenmesi

Abstract

Nevşehir bölgesinde geniş alanlarda mostra veren ignimbiritler özellikle tarihi yapılarda ve düşük katlı binalarda yapı taşı olarak yaygın bir şekilde kullanıldığı gibi aynı zamanda bölgenin önemli doğal, kültürel ve tarihi miraslarına temel kayası olma özelliği taşımaktadır. İgnimbiritler gözenekli yapıya sahip olması sebebiyle yağmur veya yüzey suları ile temas ettiğinde, kılcal su emme etkisiyle suyu bünyesine alma eğilimi gösterir. Kayaçların kılcal su emme özelliği, yapı taşlarında meydana gelen fiziksel bozunmanın en önemli nedenlerinden biridir. Bu çalışmada, Nevşehir yöresine ait farklı renk ve dokusal özellikler sunan ignimbiritlerin fiziksel ve kimyasal etkenler karşısında zamana bağlı bozunma performansları incelenmiş, bozunmanın ignimbirit örneklerinin fiziksel ve mekanik özellikleri üzerindeki etkisi ile bozunma performanslarına bağlı olarak kılcal su emme davranışları değerlendirilmiştir. Hızlandırılmış bozunma çevrimleri farklı kaynaşma derecesine sahip ignimbiritlerin fiziksel ve mekanik özellikleri üzerinde etkili olup, en üstte yer alan bej renkli ignimbiritler bozunma çevrimlerinden daha fazla etkilenmiştir. Ayrıca bozunma çevrimleri boyunca, örneklerin kılcal su emme davranışlarında düzensiz değişimler gözlenmiştir.

Ignimbrites which extensively crop out around the province of Nevşehir have been commonly employed in specifically historical structures and low-story buildings as dimension stone and are known to be the basement rock of significant natural, cultural and historical heritage of the region. Ignimbrites tend to absorb water via capillarity when they contact with rain or surface water due to their highly porous structure. The capillary water absorption characteristic of rocks is one of the most significant reasons for the physical deterioration of natural stones. In this study, time-dependent weathering performance of various ignimbrites collected from the Nevşehir region with varying color and textural properties against physical and chemical influences were investigated. The effect of deterioration on the physical and mechanical properties of the ignimbrite specimens as well as the capillary water absorption characteristics with regards to durability performance were also evaluated. Accelerated weathering cycles are quite effective on the physico-mechanical properties of variously welded ignimbrites, and the beige colored ignimbrites on the upper level are most affected by the weathering cycles. Furthermore, fluctuating variations of the capillary water absorption behavior of the specimens were observed throughout the weathering cycles.
