Bu çalışmanın amacı psikolojik iyi oluş ile dindarlık arasındaki ilişkinin tespit edilmesidir.
Araştırmanın problemi “Üniversite öğrencilerinin dinî yaşayış düzeyleri
ile psikolojik iyi oluşları arasında nasıl bir ilişki olduğu” dur. İnsanoğlu var olduğu
andan itibaren öğrenen ve öğrendikçe değişen ve gelişen çok yönlü bir yapıya sahiptir.
Teknolojik ve bilimsel alandaki ilerlemelerle değişerek küreselleşen dünya
bireyleri ve toplumları etkilemektedir. Bu etki sebebiyle insanların yaşam biçimleri
ve kültürel değerleri de değişmektedir. Psikolojik süreçler de bu değişimlerden
birisidir. Bu durum psikolojinin önemini artırmasının yanı sıra din ve dindarlığa
olan ihtiyacı da arttırmaktadır. Çünkü kişinin davranışsal, duygusal ve bilişsel değişiminin
en büyük fonksiyonu dindir. Zira dinin ilke ve prensipleri, bireyin karakter
ve değerlerinin oluşmasında etkilidir. Nitekim bireyler, inançlarından ve kişisel
tecrübelerinden hareketle hem bilişsel hem de davranışsal olarak huzur bozucu
olaylarla karşılaşabilmektedirler. Dinin bireyin hayatına anlam ve güven sunması
dinin bireye sağladığı destek ve yaşanan bireysel dinî tecrübelerin sağladığı pozitif
duygu sayesinde birey bu olaylarla başa çıkabilmek için Tanrı ile manevi bir bağ
kurar. Kişi bu bağ sayesinde kendini mutlu hissederek psikolojik iyi oluş düzeyini
artırır. Ayrıca kişi dinin sağladığı sosyal destek sayesinde de yalnız olmadığını ve
hayatında birilerinin var olduğunu bilir. Bu ise bireyin psikolojik iyi oluş seviyesinin
artmasını sağlar. Hayatının bir anlam ve amacının olduğunun bilinmesi bireye
geleceğe yönelik iyimser bir bakış açısı kazandırır. Bu da onun yaşadığı hayat
memnuniyetini yükseltir. Dinin davranışsal ve duygusal boyutlarını tecrübe eden
birey, hayatına özgüven, mutluluk ve psikolojik iyi oluş gibi pozitif duygular katarak
bunlar sayesinde hayatta karşılaşılan negatif duygularla başa çıkabilmektedir. Dinin
psikolojik iyi oluşu nasıl etkilediği sorusu ise din psikolojisinin incelediği temel
konulardan birisidir. Bu araştırmanın temel problemi ise “üniversite öğrencilerinin
dinî yaşayış düzeyleri ile psikolojik iyi oluşları arasında nasıl bir ilişki olduğu”dur.
Özellikle Batı dünyasında dindarlık ile psikolojik iyi oluş arasındaki ilişkiler hem
teorik hem de empirik yöntemlerle incelenmektedir.
This study aims to determine the relationship between psychological well-being and
religiosity. The problem of the research is “What kind of a relationship is there between
the level of the religious life of university students and their psychological well-being”.
Human beings have a versatile structure that learns from the moment they exist and
changes and develops as they learn. The globalizing world, changing by technological and scientific advances, affects individuals and societies. Because of this effect,
people’s lifestyles and cultural values also change. Psychological processes are one of
these changes. This situation increases the importance of psychology as well as the
need for religion and religiosity. Because religion is the biggest function of a person’s
behavioral, emotional, and cognitive change. The norms and principles of religion are
effective in the formation of an individual’s character and values. As a matter of fact,
individuals may encounter disturbing events both cognitively and behaviorally due to
their beliefs and personal experiences. The individual makes a spiritual connection
with God due to the positive feelings provided by personal religious experiences and
the trust as well as meaning brought by the religion to overcome these events. As a result of this bond, the person improves the level of psychological well-being as they feel
happy. Also, due to the social support provided by religion, the one knows that they
are not alone and that there are people in their life. This increases the psychological
well-being of the individual. Knowing that life has a meaning and purpose gives the
individual an optimistic perspective for their future endeavors. This increases their life
satisfaction. Individual, who experiences behavioral and emotional dimensions of religion, includes positive emotions such as self-confidence, happiness, and psychological well-being in their life, and as a result of this, they can cope with negative emotions
encountered in life. The question of how religion affects psychological well-being is
one of the main issues examined by the psychology of religion. The main focus of
this research is ‘‘what kind of relationship exists between the level of religious life and
psychological well-being within university students”. The relations between piety and
psychological well-being are examined with both theoretical and empirical methods,
especially in the Western world. It is possible to come across compatible as well as
incompatible information and findings in the literature questioning how the relationship between piety and psychological well-being is structured and the direction of this
relationship. This is a matter of how the individual perceives religion and makes sense
of it. The relationships between piety and psychological well-being are investigated
not specifically by psychologists of religion but also by psychologists in general and
sociologists. One of the basic criteria used to define psychological health is the extentin which an individual is happy with their life. In other words, people who are happy
and peaceful in their life are considered to have good psychological health. The formation and content of the events experienced in life affect the inner peace, psychological
well-being, and balance of the individual. In this regard, various forms of religious
explanation can be a source of psychological well-being and happiness in many cases.
It is because religions potentially affect individuals’ perceptions and perspectives on
life while making their lives easier. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between religiosity and psychological well-being. The sample of the study
consists of 382 people studying in different departments at Mersin University. In this
study, Personal Information Form, Religious Life Scale, and Psychological Well-Being
Scale were used as measurement tools. At first, the relationship between some demographic variables as well as psychological well-being and religious life were examined,
and then the relationship between psychological well-being and religious life were
examined. According to the analysis data, the following results were obtained. Levels
of psychological well-being and religious life among female students were found to
be significantly higher than those among male students. No significant relationship
was found between the variables of age and income levels. 23% of the total variance in
psychological well-being is explained by the variable of religiosity.
