Inverters are the crucial important in dc-ac power conversion. They are used in many fields such as integration of renewable energy system, motor drives, battery storage systems and so on. The performance of inverter has a remarkable effect on the overall efficiency of the system. Multilevel inverters find wide application areas comparing to traditional inverters due to low voltage stress on switching components, low harmonics and high-power quality. Vast number of studies about multilevel inverter topologies and control methods are found in the literature. In this study, three level active neutral point clamped (ANPC) inverter has been simulated with MATLAB/Simulink software and model predictive controller (MPC) has been developed to control output current of ANPC inverter. The MPC is commonly implemented to control parameters of multilevel inverter from day to day. According to classical control methods such as proportional integral derivative (PID) controller, MPC has some advantages such as low transient time and removal of calculation of tuning parameters. The tracking of reference current has been ensured with proposed MPC in the ANPC inverter. Moreover, total harmonic distortion (THD) of output current has been observed at different sampling times. The various analysis of proposed MPC controlled ANPC inverter has been presented in this paper.
