Abstract:
Urban green areas are environmental, social and economic areas that contribute to the urban life and urban residents. The presence of these areas is an important indicator of the level of urban living quality. The adequacy and accessibility of urban green spaces has significant importance in terms of increasing that effectiveness. With this study carried out in Şahinbey, which is the biggest central district of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, the presence of active green field of the district was determined; the spatial adequacy and accessibility of these areas have been evaluated within the framework of relevant national and international standards. In the study, it has been determined that the urban green areas of the city were fragmented and unevenly distributed. In addition, these areas cannot meet the standards of spatial competence and accessibility. In the province, it was determined that zoning for housing have been completed and the amount of active green area per capita in the 45 districts with green areas changed between 0,1-31,7 sqm; and in 7 neighborhoods, it was seen that green area was over 10 sqm per capita. In addition, according to the accessibility analysis results made in the 90 districts where zoning works have been completed, the number of neighborhoods with accessibility rate 0% was 7; and the average accessibility rate was 64,13%. At the end of the study, proposals have been made to ensure the benefits provided by urban areas and urban green areas at the point of availability and accessibility of green areas.
