Abstract:
Background: Smoky and smogless tobacco products that are used among adolescents in the world and our country affect general health and mouth-dental health of next generation, seriously.
Aim: The aim of the study to determine knowing of the students who were attending to high schools at Nevşehir city center, about the effect of cigarette on mouth and dental health.
Material and Methods The universe of the study consisted of 8311 high school students at Nevşehir city center. The size of sample was calculated as 368 by using sample formula. Data was collected with a questionnaire form that prepared by the researchers and by screening for mouth-dental health.
Resuts: It is found that of the students 11.6% of their mothers and 53.2% of their fathers smoked. There was a meaningful relation between gender, mothers’ smoking, class level of the students and their smoking. It is determined that of the students; 37% had got one teeth decay and 28.8% had got one stopping at least. It is seen that there was a significant relation between smoking and breath odor (p<0.05).
Conclucions: In the school health programs content; the students, their families and friends are needed to give education about hygiene practices related to protect mouth and dental health, smoking damages.
