Türkiye'nin modernleşme serüvenini Osmanlı Dönemini de dâhil ederek Tanzimat Fermanına kadar götürmek mümkün olsa da her alanda köklü bir değişim gayretinin Cumhuriyetin ilanı ile birlikte büyük ölçüde kitle iletişim araçları üzerinden yeniden oluşturulduğu görülmektedir. Kendi iç siyasetinde, Cumhuriyetin kuruluşundan baş-layarak tek partili hayatın sona ermesine kadar geçen süreçte modernleşme yolunda kültür, ekonomi, siyaset gibi pek çok alanda radikal adımlar atan Türkiye kitle iletişim imkânlarının gelişmesi ile birlikte kendine yeni bir yöntem edinmiştir. Modernleşme çabaları, siyasi erkler haricinde yerini bizzat sosyal hayatın içerisinden türemiş içten bir değişime maruz bırakılır hale getirmiştir. O döneme kadar tepeden inmeci bir mo-dernleşme ile karşılaşan Türk toplumu, uluslararası politikada yaşanan köklü reformlar sayesinde içten bir bağımlılık duyarak modernleşme sürecine girmiştir. Fakat özellikle soğuk savaş sonrası dönemde dünya artık tek bir modern kavramı etrafında dönme-mektedir. Amerikan tarzı modernleşmenin karşısında Marksist ideoloji kendi içerisin-de bir "modern" yaratmış ve bunu üçüncü dünya devletlerine dayatmaktan geri dur-mamıştır. Çalışmanın temel sorusu da aslında burada yatmaktadır. Türkiye'nin top-lumsal değişimi, daha sonrasındaki yıllarda Marksist düşüncenin de etkisi ile eklektik bir biçimde kendi kültüründe ne şekilde tezahür etmiştir? Toplumsal açıdan ele alın-dığında din, aile, kültür ve gelenekler bazen bizzat hükümetlerin politikaları ile bazen de ideolojik örgütler eliyle modern dünyanın şartlarına göre reformize edilmeye, gele-neksel muhafazakâr tabu yıkılmaya çalışılmıştır. Geleneksel Türk aile yapısını, dini düşüncesini ve yaşayışını bu noktada hem inanç hem pratikler bağlamında modern çağın gereksinimlerine göre şekillendirilme ve sekülerleştirme düşüncesi belirmiştir. Bir bakımdan toplum mühendisliği olarak nitelendirilebilecek bu amaç, netice olarak dönemin sosyal ve siyasi olguları içerisinde yazılı ve görsel edebiyat türlerinde olduğu kadar "yedinci sanat" olarak nitelendirilen sinemada da etkisini göstermiştir.
Although taking the the history of Turkey's modernization, including the late priod of Ottoman Empire, back to the Tanzimat seems impossible on a large scale, it appears that radical changes in all areas have been rebuilt, after the proclamation of the Re-public, through the mass media. Turkey has adopted a new method in the way of moderaziation by assignng radical steps in political, social and cultural fields, starting with the establishment of the Republic until the end of the single party period, as a result of the development in the mass media. Modernization process has made its place subject to an internal change derived from social life, except for political powers. Until then, Turkish society, which has faced a top-down modernization, en-tered the modernization process, feeling a sincere dependence thanks to the radical reforms in international politics. However, especially in the post-cold war era, the world no longer revolves around a single modern concept. In the face of American-style modernization, Marxist ideology created a "modern" and did not hesitate to impose it on third world states. The main question of the study actually lies here. How has Turkey's social change, with effect from the Marxist thought in the later years in an eclectic way, manifested itself in its culture? From a social point of view, religion, family, culture and traditions have been tried to be reformed according to the conditions of the modern world, sometimes by the policies of the governments themselves, and sometimes by ideological organizations, and the traditional conserva-tive taboo was tried to be destroyed. At this point, the idea of shaping and seculari-zing the traditional Turkish family structure, religious thought and life according to the needs of the modern age in the terms of both beliefs and practices has emerged. This aim, which can be qualified as social engineering in a sense, has shown its effect in the social and political phenomena of the period as well as in the types of written and visual literature as well as in the cinema defined as the 7th Art.
