Öz
Arap belâgatı meânî konularından biri olan hazf, gözetilen gayeye bağlı olarak kelime ve cümle
eksiltmesi şeklinde gerçekleşir. Kur'an ve Arap dili hazf konusu için birçok örneklerin sunulduğu alan
olarak kaynak durumundadır. İbareyi vecîz kılıp gereksiz uzatmalardan arındıran, karîneye dayanarak
yapılan hazf, muhâtabın düşünce dünyasını, his ve aklını harekete geçirmektedir. Mütekellime az
sözle çok şeyler aktarması olanağını sağlayan hazf, mahzûf olan şeyi mezkûr hale dönüştürmüş
olmaktadır. Hazf kelime veya cümleden bir veya birden çok unsurun atılması olarak tanımlanabilir.
Karînenin mevcut olup olmamasına bağlı olarak başvurulabilen i’câz için önemli bir seçenek olarak
ortaya çıkar. Hazf mütekellimin tercihi, dış ortam ve dilbilgisi gibi sebeplerden dolayı gerçekleşebilir.
Hazf, i’câzı te’min etmek, boş sözlerden kaçınmak, umum bildirmek, cümleler arası uyumu sağlamak,
sözü etkin sunmak gibi amaçlarla yapılır. Makalede yeminler, emirler, soru cümleleri v.b. ile hazf’in
nasıl yapıldığı, şartlarının neler olduğu, bu konu hakkında farklı görüşler ele alınarak örnekler
vasıtasıyla açıklanmıştır.
Hazf is a part of the Balagha (eloquence) of the discipline of meaning in the Arabic language which
comes into play when a word or a sentence is eliminated in accordance with its objective. The Quran
and the Arabic language are fair sources of examples of hazf (deletion). Presumptively eliminating
the unnecessary terms from the sentences, hazf triggers the thought process, the feelings and the
mind of the respondent; aids the speaker to express more meaningwith less words and therefore the
hidden meaning is mentioned. Hazf can be defined as removing one or more elements from a word

or a sentence. Depending on whether the presumption is existing or not, it becomes an important
option for being succinct. Hazf can be made by the choice of the speaker, his/her knowledge of
grammar or the outer environment. Hazf is done to be succinct, to avoid unnecessary words, to give
the whole statement by providing harmony between sentences and presenting the word effectively.
In this paper, we will demonstrate how hafz is done with examples such as oaths, imperatives,
questions etc.; what the conditions are and what the doctrine of scholars are of this particular
subject
