Türkiye’de kentleşme, diğer gelişmekte olan ülkelerde olduğu gibi, sanayileşmeye bağlı olarak
ortaya çıkan bir toplumsal olgu olmadığı için, “aşırı, sağlıksız” bir biçimde gerçekleşmektedir.
Bu gerçeklik, Türkiye’de yerel birimler düzeyindeki “kentleşme süreçleri” için de geçerlidir.
Diğer taraftan, sanayileşme süreçlerinin yetersizliği, azgelişmiş ülkelerde görece küçük
kentlerin kentleşme hızının oldukça yavaş gerçekleşmesini beraberinde getirdiği de ileri
sürülebilir. Bu çalışmada Niğde ili kentleşmesi değerlendirilmektedir. Kentleşmesi “yavaş” olan
Niğde’de, buna bağlı olarak, diğer kentleşmesi hızlı büyük kentlerimizde görülen birçok
sorunun, sorun düzeyine çıkmadığı söylenebilir. Ancak Niğde bağlamında “hızlı”
kentleşememek, “kırsal niteliklerin” yoğunluğunu ve buna bağlı sorunların varlığını korumasını
beraberinde getirmektedir. Ayrıca, kentleşmenin hızının düşüklüğü, sorunları sadece
göreceleştirmektedir. Bu çalışma, bir anlamda bu iki duruma ışık tutmaktadır.
Because the urbanisation in Turkey, like in other developing countries, is not a social phenomenon emerged in relation with industrialisation, it is turning up to be "extreme, unhealthy". This reality is also true for the "urbanisation processes" at the level of local units in Turkey. On the other hand, it can be argued that the inadequacy of industrialisation process in Less-developed countries brought about slow rate of urbanisation in relatituely small towns. In this study, urbanisation in Niğde province will be evaluated. Many of the problems observed in big cities having fast urbanisation do not emerge as a serious problem because urbanisation is relatively "slow" in Niğde. However, in context of Niğde, the lack of "fast" urbanisation brings about ruralisation and the perpetuation of the problems related to it. Furthermore, the speed of urbanisation, whether it is high or low, only changes the size of the problems. This study sheds light on these two points.
