Bizans tarihinde önemli imparatorlardan biri olan I. Alexios Komnenos, Bizans İmparatorluğunun dağılmakta olduğu bir zamanda askeri sınıfla beraber Bizans tahtına geçmiş ve imparatorluğun çeşitli düşmanlarına karşı ülkesini sonuna kadar diplomatik ve askeri hamlelerle muhafaza etmiştir.
