Öğrencilerin sosyoloji bölümünü tercih nedenleri: ODTÜ örneği

Abstract

Tezimizin konusu Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (ODTÜ) Sosyoloji bölümü öğrencilerinin sosyoloji bölümünü tercih nedenleridir. ÖSYS?de ilk 20.000. sıra içerisinde yer alan ODTÜ Sosyoloji Bölümü?nde kayıtlı öğrencilerin, sosyoloji bölümünü tercih nedenlerini büyüteç altına aldık. Tespit edebildiğimiz veriler ile sosyolojik bir analiz gerçekleştirmeyi hedefledik. Çalışmayı yaparken ODTÜ Sosyoloji Bölümünde öğrenim gören öğrencilere bir anket formu aracılığı ile sorular yönelttik. Öğrencilerin üniversite ve bölüm tercihini etkileyebilecek çeşitli faktörleri oransal olarak belirlemeye yönelik soruların yanı sıra, kendi kişisel bazı özelliklerini ve ailelerinin akademik, sosyal ve ekonomik özelliklerini içeren profil bilgilerini elde ettik. Ayrıca yükseköğretimden ve üniversiteden beklentilerin tercihleri etkileyeceğini tahmin ederek, öğrenci beklentilerine ilişkin bilgiler topladık. Elde ettiğimiz verilerin literatürdeki kavramlar ve tartışmalar ışığında değerlendirdik. Araştırmamız neticesinde, öğrencilerin Sosyoloji bölümünü tercih etme süreçlerinin, öğrencilerin sosyo-ekonomik profili, üniversite ve bölümden beklentileri ile birlikte; ülkenin genel olarak eğitim ve özel olarak yükseköğretime giriş sisteminin etkisi altında olduğu bulgulanmıştır. The subject of this thesis is to reveal the reasons why Middle East Technical University (METU) Department of Sociology students had preferred METU Department of Sociology. I aimed to examine the reasons why METU Department of Sociology students who are in the first twenty thousand in ÖSYS points standings had preferred the Department of Sociology. In this study I applied a questionnaire form to METU Department of Sociology students. We asked questions in order to determine various factors that will effect students? preferences on the department. At the same time, we asked questions on the personal characteristics of students and on the social and economic features of their parents. However, assuming that expectations of higher education and university effects on the preferences, we collected the knowledges on the students? expectations. We evaluated the data we obtained, in light of on the concepts and discussions in literature In the study, I came to the conclusion that the reasons why students had preffered Department of Sociology affected by students? social and economic characteristics and their expectations of the university and the department, and beside, in general by educational conditions of the country; in particularly, by admission system to higher education.
