Tarihle popülerliğin birleştiği çizgide bir Peyami Safa romanı: Attilâ

Abstract

Türk edebiyatında Hunlar ve Attilâ hakkında bilinen ilk roman Peyami Safa’nın Attilâ isimli romanıdır. Eser, 1928 yılında Cumhuriyet gazetesinde tefrika edildikten sonra, 1931 yılında Resimli Ay Matbaası tarafından basılmıştır. Tarihsel bir roman olarak değerlendirilen Attilâ, Peyami Safa’nın diğer eserlerine oranla edebiyat tarihi içerisinde geri planda kalmış ve unutulmuş bir metindir. Metin incelendiğinde üslubun, yazarın bilinen üslubundan farklı olduğu ve metnin popüler roman türünün bazı özelliklerini taşıdığı görülebilir. Bu çalışmanın çerçevesi içerisinde öncelikle Attilâ romanının tarihsel ve popüler roman türleri açısından taşıdığı özellikler araştırılacak, daha sonra metnin bir incelemesi yapılarak, yazarın diğer eserlerine oranla neden unutulduğu tartışılacaktır.

Peyami Safa’s Attilâ is known to be the first novel in Turkish literature about the Huns and Attilâ. The novel was first serialized in Cumhuriyet newspaper in 1928 and then published by Resimli Ay Matbaası in 1931. When compared to other works of Peyami Safa, Attila, defined as a historical novel, is undervalued in literary history and almost forgotten. When the text is examined, it can be observed that the author’s style is different from his typical style and the text carries the features of the popular novel genre. In the frame of this study, first, the features of the text will be examined in terms of popular and historical novel. Afterwards, it will be discussed why the novel is forgotten compared to the other works of the author.
