dc.description.abstract Amaç: Bu çalışmada, otel çalışanlarının AIDS (Acquired Immuno-deficiency Syndrome) ile ilgili bilgi düzeylerinin saptanması amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma, Kapadokya bölgesinde bulunan 4 ve 5 yıldızlı otellerde çalışan 266 kişide yapıldı. AIDS, bulaşma yolları ve korunma ilgili temel bilgilerin yer aldığı anket formları çalışanlarla yüz yüze görüşülerek dolduruldu. Bulgular: Araştırmaya alınan otel çalışanlarından AIDS’i duyanların oranı % 94.7’dir. Çalışanların % 85.7’si AIDS’in bulaşıcı bir hastalık olduğunu bilmektedir. Purpose: The aim of our study was to determine the knowledge level of hotel workers about AIDS. Material and Methods: This study was conducted on 266 hotel workers working in 4 and 5 star hotels in the touristic region of Cappadocia. A questionnaire including the way of transmission and prevention of AIDS was filled in by means of face-to-face interviews. Results: The rate of hotel workers who had previously heard about AIDS was 94.7%. Among all the workers, 85.7% knew that AIDS was a transmitted disease. Heterosexual intercourse, blood transfusion and direct contact with infected blood were the most widely known ways of transmission. Only 36.1% of the workers stated that the outer appearance of a person with AIDS might be healthy. Of the workers, 44.4% considered that the risk of AIDS is existent in their lives or workplaces. The workers stated that the most important measures for preventing AIDS are using condoms (85.3%), avoiding infected blood or body fluid (80.5%) and being monogamous (75.9%). While the rate of workers who had heard the information about AIDS from health personnel was 41.7 %, radio/television (90.1%) and newspapers/books (80.6 %) were the most important sources of information. Conclusion: Our findings indicated that hotel workers do not have enough information about AIDS and they generally obtain this information from media. We believe that education programmes in collaboration with health institutions and hotel directors may be effective to protect the workers from probable AIDS risk. tr_TR
