Sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin ortaokul sosyal bilgiler derslerinde demokrasi eğitimi hakkındaki görüşleri ve değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Yozgat ilinde bulunan ortaokullarda görev yapmakta olan Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenlerinin ortaokul Sosyal Bilgiler derslerindeki demokrasi eğitimine yönelik görüşlerini tespit etmek ve yapılan değerlendirmelerin; öğretim programı ve ders kitapları hazırlayıcılarına, akademisyenlere, öğretmenlere, eğitim yöneticilerine ve öğrencilere demokrasi eğitimi konusunda katkıda bulunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması ile şekillenmiştir. Bu araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2019-2020 eğitim-öğretim yılında Yozgat ili ortaokullarında görev yapmakta olan 20 Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmaya katılan 20 Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmeni ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler elde edildikten sonra sonuçlar içerik analizi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma ile ilgili bulgular, on ana tema ve alt temalar halinde sunulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda; ortaokul öğrencilerinin demokrasi algılarının yetersiz olduğu, demokrasi eğitiminde Sosyal Bilgiler'in yerinin önemli olduğu, Sosyal Bilgiler ders kitaplarındaki demokrasi kazanımlarının yer aldığı ünitelerin yeniden düzenlenmesi gerektiği, demokrasinin ortaokul öğrencileri tarafından bir yaşam biçimi olarak algılanması gerektiği, demokrasi eğitiminde uygulamaya yönelik etkinlikler ve çevresel faktörler konusunda sorunlar yaşandığı, demokrasi eğitimi ile ilgili sorunların çözümünde okul, aile ve öğrenci çevresi ile ilgili çalışmalar yapılması gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

This study aims to determine the opinions of Social Studies teachers working in secondary schools in the city of Yozgat about democracy education in secondary school Social Studies courses and the evaluations made; It aims to contribute to the curriculum and textbook preparers, academics, teachers, education administrators and students in democracy education. The research has been shaped by case study, one of the qualitative research methods. The working group of this research consists of 20 Social Studies teachers working in the secondary schools of Yozgat in the 2019-2020 academic year. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 Social Studies teachers who participated in the study. After the data was obtained, the results were evaluated with content analysis. Findings related to the research are presented in ten main themes and sub-themes. As a result of the research; Secondary school students' perceptions of democracy are insufficient, the place of Social Studies in democracy education is important, the units in which democracy gains take place in Social Studies textbooks should be reorganized, democracy should be perceived as a way of life by middle school students, practical activities in democracy education and environmental factors. It was concluded that there were problems, and studies should be done about the school, family and student environment to solve the problems related to democracy education.
